to control him to an extent, and meteor was the result. He had longed to tell Tifa how he felt at the Gold Saucer, but she had asked him to go and he had waited to for her to say something. But nothing happened. It seemed like every decision he made backfired. He had to talk to Tifa. But when? How?

Once everybody got back to the airship, silence prevailed as the gang waited for Cloud to give the orders for the last mission.

"Listen up everyone, this is it.  Our mission is to infiltrate the Northern Cave and defeat Sephiroth. If we succeed, Holy should be released and stop meteor. If we fail…."

"Yo," Barret exclaimed. "Now don't go thinkin' that you're gonna die before ya even fight! I'm not gonna die, we gotta save the world!"

"Um…Is that the really the reason you're fighting? Cait Sith asked.

"Whatcha mean?"

"I know that it seems cool to say 'We're fightin for the world' but aren't you fighting for other reasons?" Cait Sith inquired.

Barret thought for awhile, looking at the floor and finally said, "Well…yeah…. I guess so. I started this fight against the Shinra, for what they done to my town, but know that we're fighting for our own lives, I guess I'm fightin for Marlene. Yeah, for her future. I'd guess you'd call it my feelins or something."

Cloud spoke up, "I want all of you to go and find what you're fighting for. Each one of us has an irreplaceable person or thing that we refuse to give up. Look for it, and when you find it, come back."

"What if none of us come back?" Cid protested, puffing his cigarette.

After the gang had left, Cloud turned to Tifa. She had stayed. He knew why. It was the same reason he had stayed. Neither of them had any loved ones except each other. Their parents had died long ago and their relatives had perished in the fire at Nibelheim. They were alone in the world.

"You think they'll come back?" Tifa asked softly.

"I don't know, but even if they don't..." He turned away from her and said, "I still have to go fight Sephiroth."

"Hey, I'm here too, you know. Don't think that I'm going to let you fight alone."

Cloud lowered his shoulders and said, "I know, its just that every time I think of him, I get so angry and think that's its my job to get rid of him. He took so much away from me: Nibelheim, the power to control myself, the future, and..." he paused for a moment and turned to face Tifa, "he almost took you."

Both talked back by the remark, an uncomfortable silence spread between them, as their eyes
